3 Easy Ways To Get Through A Bad Day

Posted on by Olivia Hatton

We all have those days. You don’t feel like getting out of bed, or getting dressed, or going to work. You just want to stay inside and let your heart and your mind wallow. Maybe you have too much on your plate and just need a day to yourself. It’s perfectly okay to feel this way.

Whether you lose your job, a loved one, or just going through a really tough time, doing these three things can make your bad day, better.

1. Breathe.

I know this one may sound extremely repetitive, but that is because it can really make the difference. Breathe in through your nose for a full five seconds, and out through your mouth for another five seconds. Do this repeatedly until you feel calm. You can always add music or go on a short walk while you breathe. If you have to, breathe in and out for more than five seconds or do some stretches to follow your breathing, but don’t stop until you’ve become relaxed.  Take as long as you need.

2. Talk to Someone.

Call a close friend or family member. If you don’t have anyone to call, hire a professional. Just talk to someone! Your cat or dog does not count. You have to say what you’re feeling out loud, as well as hear a response to fully know you have been listened to. If you have to, write what you want to say down on a piece of paper. Talking to someone not only helps with closure in the end, but you also know you are not alone.

3. Let Whatever happens, happen.

In all honesty, there is nothing we can do to change what happens in the past. But we can dictate our future.  We can’t let the bad things in this life take away what is good. If you lost your job, there will always be others. If you are going through a break up, there are other fish in the sea. If you lost a loved one, they would want you to be happy. So get out there and focus on what you do have.

You have people who love and support you. You have an entire world to see and explore. Don’t let what happened in the past change you. You are the only one standing in your way of a bad day.
